Antidepressant Zoloft is considered to be one of the most efficient anti-anxiety medicines prescribed for treatment of , obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, social phobia and panic disorder. Together with Celexa, Effexor, Fluvoxamine, Lexapro, Paxil and Prozac this remedy belongs to a group of drugs known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI). Zoloft controls producing of serotonin in the brain that influences various signs of and other anxiety states.
Traditional drugstores, as well as online pharmacies, offer Zoloft in two possible forms: tablets and liquid solution. Both formations are for oral administration. As a rule, a patient takes a pill once a day (in the morning or in the evening) before or after having meals. The liquid form of the drug is available as a concentrated solution that a patient should dilute with water, lemonade, ginger ale, lemon-lime soda, or orange juice before taking. Do not use other drinks to dilute the oral concentrate. Besides, the ready diluted remedy must be prepared just before taking. You cannot drink a solution prepared
beforehand.
Recently there appeared a lot of reports about side effects caused by antidepressants, including Zoloft. It is worth of making a reservation that not everybody who takes Zoloft experience serious side effects. More than that, serious side effects as acne, glaucoma or menstrual problems are extremely rare. The most frequent side effects of Zoloft are: nausea, dry mouth, sexual side effects, diarrhea, weight loss and insomnia. Pay attention to the side effects you experience. If you feel sleepy after taking a dose, it would be reasonable for you to take it in the evening just before going to bed. On the other hand, experiencing insomnia, take the remedy in the morning. But, generally, antidepressant Zoloft must be taken in strict accordance with the doctor’s prescription. Take it as long as your doctor recommends, otherwise there is no sense in taking it.
Tell your doctor if you have bipolar disorder or some of your relatives have ever had this disorder. Your healthcare provider must know about any suicidal thoughts or accidents in your life. Tell him if you have seizures, allergic reaction of your body to anything (even food allergy and reaction to preservatives), suffer from cirrhosis or liver failure.
Besides, notify your physician if you are pregnant, breast-feeding or thinking about becoming pregnant soon. In case you will take other medicines while you are going to take , including birth control pills, herbal supplements and probiotics, let your doctor know about it. It is very important, as the drug interaction frequently may cause serious consequences.
If you increased the dosage, possible symptoms are: drowsiness, hypertension, hypotension, nausea, dizziness, vomiting, tremor, rapid heart rate, bradycardia, agitation, arrhythmia, seizures, fainting. In this case you should seek emergency medical attention. Do not take two doses the same day. If you failed to take your scheduled dose, make it up as you remember but not if it is high time for the next dose.
Before taking antidepressant Zoloft it is strictly recommended to read the Patient Information leaflet carefully. Store the remedy in an airtight jar at room temperature away from heat.
